One of the most infamous Nazis is being taken on by Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan. A drama called Anthropoid is all set to be released on August 12th now that Bleecker Street has obtained the United States distribution rights. Dornan and Murphy are starring in the drama that is based on the real life mission known as “Operation Anthropoid”. This current World War II drama will highlight two Czech soldiers, Josef Gabčík (Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan), as they attempt to kill SS officer Reinhard Heydrich by sneaking into a Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.
Heydrich was the third in command among the Nazis and he led the occupation of Czechoslovakia. Even worse, he was also the man known to be behind the origin of the Final Solution. Gabčík and Kubiš parachuted into their home country on a top-secret mission in December 1941, with hopes of assassinating Heydrich. Metro Manila director Sean Ellis was inspired to work on Anthropoid from a screenplay he wrote with Anthony Frewin. Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon are working as the producers. The cast of actors includes Charlotte Le Bon, Ana Geislerová, Harry Lloyd, Bill Milner, and Toby Jones.
Bleecker Street CEO Andrew Karpen released a complimentary statement. He said, “Sean Ellis’ film drops you right into the center of resistance in World War II and takes viewers on an emotional ride all the way through its heart-stopping finale. We are proud to partner with Mickey and Pete on this film which we feel will resonate with adult audiences this summer.”
