A Type 95 Ha-Go tank, used by Japan during the Second World War, will be running in the arena at TANKFEST 2019. Only two operational Ha-Go tanks exist in the world and this is the first time that one has ever run at TANKFEST.
Around 2,300 of these tanks were manufactured by the Japanese Empire for the Second World War, less than 25 now survive and only two of them are in running order. The Ha-Go on display at TANKFEST was found on an island in the South Pacific. It was previously on show in Osaka, Japan until it was brought to England by Oliver Barnham in 2005.
Head of Collections, Chris van Schaardenburg, said, “It’s fantastic to have the Ha-Go on display at TANKFEST 2019. I know that the majority of our visitors will never have seen one running before and we are very grateful to Oliver Barnham for allowing us to display this rare Japanese tank.”
Oliver Barnham spent over ten years restoring the Ha-Go to running condition and almost all of the original features have been retained, including the engine.
