A sniper is a skilled marksman whose job is to shoot someone from afar without hitting anyone (or anything) else. But it’s not just about pointing, shooting, and hitting.
Snipers must also take into consideration their weapon, ammunition, wind velocity and direction, air density, and even the rotation of the earth – the mastery of which allows them to perform deadly miracles.
More often than not, Snipers are used as scouts who use their high powered telescopic sights to observe and then report the doings of the enemy.
That is how it works in the real world, but now let’s move over to Hollywood and their view of snipers. Not unusually, anybody who can point a gun at somebody and hit the target from more than 50 feet is quickly called a sniper.
A sniper rifle does not need to be a weapon specifically designed for the job. In the case of #7 on the list you are about to see a standard assault rifle without a scope can get you the honorary title of ‘sniper’. To be honest, that is not the movie we would have picked for the list.
Lucky for us a large number of the movies selected in the top 10 list made by WatchMojo are war films which immediately and significantly increases the reality levels of how a sniper operates.
We will not give away all the movies on the list, but Private Jackson from Saving Private Ryan is in there. Funnily enough, his famous “through the other snipers scope shot” hasn’t made it into the final cut.
