A video that provides you with detailed information about the differences between the U.S M1 Abrams and the Russian T-90 MS tanks.
The US M1 Abrams
The M1 Abrams battle tank is an American built third-generation primary ground battle tank. It is named after General Creighton Abrams. He was commander-in-chief of the United States armed forces from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War and was a former Army chief of staff.
The M1 is well equipped with weapons and is built with heavily armored plates. The M1 has very good mobility, and it was created for today’s prevailing armored ground warfare. Notable features include the use of a dominant multifuel turbine engine, the adoption of complex composite armor, and a separate section to store ammunition that was protected from the crew for their safety.
It is one of the heaviest battle tanks put into service. The M1 Abrams weighs almost 62 metric tons (nearly 68 short tons). (Wikipedia)
The Russian T-90
The T-90 ground warfare tank is a Russian-built third-generation battle tank that began service in 1993. The Russian T-90 tank is an innovative version of the T-72B and integrates many attributes found on the Russian T-80U. Although it is now named the T-90, it was originally called the T-72BU. It is the most modern and mobile battle tank supporting the Russian Naval Infantry and the Russian Ground Forces and the Naval Infantry.
The T-90 has a 125 mm 2A46, a smoothbore primary gun, the 1A45T fire-control system, a new, modern, upgraded engine, and a thermal sighting system. The Russians have built several standard protective measures for the battle tank and the tank crew that include a blend of steel, composite armor, a laser warning receiver system, the Shtora infrared ATGM jamming system, the Kontakt-5 explosion reactive armor, smoke dischargers, and Nakidka camouflage.
The Russian armed forces have stopped taking any additional orders for the T-90 since 2011 because they are anticipating the development of the new T-14 Armata battle tank that is expected to be ready for service in 2016.
